Course Description

An exploration of the flow of biblical history as it follows the results of Lucifer’s fall, humankind’s rebellion, and God’s ongoing redemptive work in the world. This conflict is often referred to as The Great Controversy. This course is an opportunity to learn spiritual practices (scripture study, journaling, and prayer) as well as a hands on lab for learning about Christian life (service and discipleship).

Materials

Bible (student’s own – suitable for marking)
Journal (provided by teacher)
Textbook: Truth Unveiled (provided by teacher)
Paper

An open mind and heart

Course Expectations

Students will be expected come to class on time and participate in class assignments, projects, activities and discussions.

Journaling

There will be a daily journaling exercise which involves at least a half page of written reflections. This is graded only on participation not on content. It is an opportunity for the student to express their thoughts and prayers. The student may fold over any pages which they would like to remain private and I will respect that privacy – only checking for participation.

Scriptural Memorization

Each week the student will be given a short passage of scripture which they will be expected to commit to memory. There will be a written quiz of memory texts on the first class period of each week. The student will create and maintain a “promise ring” of these scriptures.

Projects

The student will complete four projects during the year – one per quarter. While some time will be provided for working on these projects in class, the student should be prepared to spend a significant amount of time outside of class in order to complete the project.

Tests and quizzes

There will be periodic quizzes (warning will always be given) and regular tests. Tests and quizzes will only include material covered in class, or specifically mentioned as being important.
