Course Description

This year we will be exploring a broad range of technologies and computer related skill sets. Students will become proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products as used in an educational and basic business context (word, excel, powerpoint). Students will become familiar with design theory, typography, and color theory. They will apply these theories as they learn basic computer design skills such as page layout, vector drawing and image manipulation. Students will learn the basics of video and audio editing and will create several multimedia projects. The second half of the year will include an overview of web and print design technologies. This course will culminate in the production of the school yearbook using industry standard design tools as well as the expansion of the school website.

Paper
Pencils
Pen – black fine tipped drawing
3 ring binder (for portfolio)
Clear plastic page protectors (three holed for putting in binder)
A willingness to try new things

Course Expectations

Students will be expected come to class on time and participate in class assignments, projects, activities and discussions.

Typing

Learning to touch type efficiently is a significant step in entering the world of communication and technology which we in. Typing will be a key component of this class. There will be a portion of each class period devoted to typing practice. Students may need to practice outside of class in order to reach their goals.

Assignments

This course is a hands-on real world project based course. There will be no busy work. Assignments must be completed on time. Class time will be provided for the completion of projects.

Tests and Quizzes

Quizzes will always be announced ahead of time. There will be periodic hands on tests of the skills learned in the class. These will be announced and the material to be tested will be reviewed.

Projects

This is a project based course. Projects must be completed on time and it is ultimately the responsibility of the student to make sure they have enough time in the lab or at home to do so.
