I love the fact that while I am at school I feel as if I am with my family. I also like learning at a Christian environment. It is completely different than any other schools I've been at.

My Focus Questions

What are the reasons we need laws? Do the same reasons apply to both religious laws and school laws?

We need laws so that we all wouldn't be out of control. Imagine if there were no laws in this world. I think the crime rates and every thing else would go up. In some ways they do but in other ways they don't. Like you shall not kill. It is both religious and school laws. They are also the same in some ways because God does not want his people to be out of control. The question is if we follow the laws.

Do you think that the church and school need more laws or fewer laws? Why?

Well in my opinion I think that the church needs fewer rules. The church has so many man made rules that don't make any sense at all to me. I think that some of the rules that were made were just to please themselves. All of those rules aren't going to help us get closer to God sometimes. As for the school I think their rules are just fine.

Attitude has a do with law keeping. If you have a bad attitude towards something you're likely not going to follow those rules. If you don't like obedience you are not going to follow the rules. First of all when I don't like something and I have to do I probably wouldn't do depending on what it was. A lot of people probably feel this way and that is why a lot of laws are broken.

Attitude has a do with law keeping. If you have a bad attitude towards something you're likely not going to follow those rules. If you don't like obedience you are not going to follow the rules. First of all when I don't like something and I have to do it I probably wouldn't do it depending on what it was. A lot of people probably feel this way and that is why a lot of laws are broken.

What on person would you choose to have with you if you were about to face a difficult trial? Why would you choose that person?

I can’t tell you who that one person would be. No offense. I would choose that person because they truly care about me and I have already faced many difficult trails with them. They have Jesus in their heart which makes it easier for me to trust in God even when I feel like he is not there. That person is like family to me.

Do you think that God performed more miracles for the Israelites than He does for us today? Explain.

No, I don’t. God performs many miracles that we don’t know about. Many people don’t share the miracles that happen to them. The miracles he performs now a days might be small, but he knows what we need. Like the bible says God we not let us be tempted beyond what we can bare.

What do you think is the biggest obstacle between you and your entrance into the heavenly Promised Land?

My biggest obstacle is being mad at God. I know that all the things that happen are not his fault. Thankfully he has always sent someone to help me see things the way they are supposed to be. I think that I have to learn to use God to help me and not blame him.

When was the time you most clearly sensed God’ power in your life?

I sensed his power at Spiritual Retreat my eighth grade year.

Why does it seem harder to follow God when life is easy?

It seems harder for many reasons. It is harder for me because I tend to look for God when times are rough. People don’t look for him when it is easy because they feel that they don’t need him. When life is hard we go back to God. When life is easy we feel that nothing can touch us, things are going good because we are powerful.

Do we ever commit the same sin so many times that God finally refuses to forgive us? Explain.

Yes, we do commit the same sin over and over. God will always forgive us. The bible says that if you are truly sorry the Lord will forgive you. If you are not sorry and are just taking advantage of God then it’s another story. [What does the Holy Spirit do to help us not repeat the same sin over and over again? Are we really sorry, are we really repenting our sins if we repeat them continously? If so, what does repentance mean – only confession for the sake of being “forgiven”? What about the cleansing that is promised if we confess our sins? See 1 John 1:9]

After committing the same sin several times, is it easier or harder to ask for forgiveness again? Explain.

It is harder because we feel that God won’t forgive us. After we sin over and over again, it feels as if we are just taking advantage of God. The more we sin the farther from God we get. It is also hard because it feels like if we are not worthy enough to ask for forgiveness all over again.

Which should you be: more friendly with “sinners” so you can witness or less friendly so you won’t be tempted by them?

We should be both. If we know what are there for and remember and follow God’s laws, we should be friendly. It all depends on how tight our relationship with God is. If we don’t have a tight relationship with him it won’t work. Being friendly with them doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to do what they do. Impact and communication work better than doing what they do.

Should church leaders be judged by a higher standard than others? Why or why not?

No they should not. God calls all people to be leaders. First of all God is the only person that should judge and it all depends to him. We are all human and all make mistakes no matter what position they have in church. They should be an example to other but if God chooses them, it is not up to us to say anything. God knows why he does things.

How can we learn to recognize God’s voice?

We can learn to recognize God’s voice by many ways. We have to be patient and listen. The main thing that we have to do is get to know God first. If you don’t know someone how will you be able to hear them if you don’t know their voice. We learn more about Him by reading the Bible and trying to understand what he is telling us.

Does there come a time when we should leave a church because of the evil there? Explain.

Yes and No. There is evil all around the world yet we don’t leave it. To the point that if there is some one possessed in you’re church I think that you should leave. God tells us to flee from demons. We should not judge either, but we need to be careful with what things can do to us. Many things can lead us astray from God and we don’t want that. You also have to look in the other person’s point of view before. What if they need help?

If you were a church member trapped in sin, how would you want the church to respond to you?

I would want their support. I would want them to be there for me no matter what I did. The world is too big for us to face it alone. I would also want them to pray with me and help me to look for God. Give me words of advice and comfort

How can a person learn to remain humble in spite of his or her success?

Well, they need God. No matter what type of success that a person may have they should not try to show it off. Try not to make people feel bad. If you are a Christian God’s basic laws are the commandments and they help us to lead our lives in the right direction. Stay on God’s path and always remember that you have be successful is because of God.

Why does God sometimes choose leaders who end up forsaking Him? Is it possible for them to lead others astray?

God sometimes does that because he always has hope for us. He knows the future but He loves us. He also does it as an example for others. In the Bible many have forsaken Him. Those who have are there to teach us a lesson.

What are some deceptive methods Satan uses to introduce spiritualism into our culture?

He uses people that he knows you love and trust. If you trust someone you will be more susceptible into believing them. You will also want to try what they are doing. He also makes it seem that it can help you more than God can. Maybe in a more quick time, so he’ll say go ahead and try it.

Why do spiritualism and the occult seem attractive to some people?

It seems more attractive for many reasons. Satan knows our weak points and what things will tempt us more. For example, people who do not have a lot of patience will have a hard time waiting for God to answer. Just like Saul. They tend to go to witches because they believe that whatever they may need, they need it now.

Why do you think God called David a “man after God’s own heart”?

I think that He called David a man after God’s own heart for many reasons. David had such a strong will to do what God wanted him to do. Ever since he was a little boy he was eager. When he fought Goliath he said it was God’s victory not his own. It is pretty self explanatory. He wasn’t after his own heart, he was after God’s.

Can you think of a sin that affects only you? Explain.

Not really. Every sin that I commit seems to always affect some one other than just me. Some people are hurt by what I did or they get mad. Most of all the sin affects me. When it affects me, it changes the ways I act sometimes toward people. Sin hurts everyone. Not just one person.

After we’ve made a mistake, how can we know that we are forgiven and still “loved by the Lord”?

We can know that we are forgiven by many ways. One very important way is the Bible. The Bible shows many examples of people who have sinned and were forgiven. It also says that once He forgives us, He throws our sins to the bottom of the ocean.

How can Jesus be our friend if we never actually see or touch Him?

He can be our friend. Jesus wants us to have faith. When we have faith it helps us to believe in Jesus more. We don’t have to see him or touch Him. A good friendship is based upon communication and how well you know the person. If we communicate with God we will have an amazing friendship.

What do you think is God’s wish for you? Can you give Him His wish?

I don’t really know what God’s wish is for me. If I were to guess I would have to say that it would be for me to trust in him more and help people and become something in life. I suppose that I could give Him His wish. I never really had thought about this until now. So, yes I could give Him His wish. He has given me so much, why can’t I give Him something.

Are there certain places that are especially “holy”? Explain why, how.

Yes, there are certain places that are holy. God has made certain places that are holy for a specific reason. For example, God had made the ark holy and special for them to have a place to worship him.

Can a person become too rich? Why or why not? How rich is too rich?

Yes, a person can be too rich. Sometimes when someone has to much money it changes them in a bad way. When you have so much money that you don’t even think about God anymore its saying that you have to much. I am not saying that when you have to much money, you can’t use it in a good way because you can. But for most people it can mess up their relationship with God.

What is the difference between being wise and being smart?

There is not a big difference, but there is. When a person is smart they are book smart. They know facts and practical things. They also know how to comprehend things easier. When you are wise you think before you act. It is like sometimes they learned from experience. When you are wise it is not something that you can learn from a book.

When we disagree with something political in our national government, how should the church [your local church, the Pennsylvania Conference, and the North American Division] respond?

Well, I think that they shouldn’t do that many things. The church and state are supposed to be separate. We could also pray about it. Another thing that we could do is right a letter giving reasonable, great reasons about the disagreement. I just really think that there is not much that we can do. If they are not agreeing with us, then we should try to give them our point of view. Maybe they will see and understand.

If the United States were to split into two nations, what changes would you likely experience?

The changes that I would experience would probably not be good ones. Maybe I would have to make a decision on which religion I was to follow. They might have different religions on both sides. I would also likely maybe have a lot of problems with trying to find a place to live. I think that we would have trouble getting all of the resources that we need as a split nation.

Why do you think we are sometimes hesitant to pray for miraculous healing?

Well, I think that sometimes we don’t want to feel that we are asking too much of God. I also think that we might not have enough faith. There is differences between saying you have faith, than actually having it. Another thing is that sometimes they have already tried and they think that God is not answering their prayers. They just don’t know that God has many ways of doing things. The main reason for this is a loss of hope.

Do you feel trapped or restricted because of the way you have been brought up? Explain.

Yes, sometimes I do. When you are brought up a certain way, your parents expect you to be that way. Sometimes it feels like I can’t express myself. The way I was brought up was always try to be the best and be better than you’re family. I don’t like that because I feel as if I can’t be myself around my cousins and stuff.

Describe the greatest evidence of God’s power that you have ever witnessed.

Wow, this is a tough one. I would have to say… when one of my sisters was extremely sick. The doctors said that if she would have gotten to the hospital a half hour later she would have died. With God’s help they immediately performed surgery. She was in the hospital for 2 months, but now is very healthy. Without God’s power watching her she would not be here today and I think that was the greatest evidence that I have witnessed.

Who do you think has more control over our world today – God or Satan? Explain.

I think that God has more control over our world today. I think that when you look at all of the bad in this world we would tend to say Satan. Imagine this world without God having control in it. Our world is already a disaster, but without God it would be complete chaos. No matter how many people Satan can deceive God will always have ultimate power.

Do you believe you could be precisely the Christian God wants you to be and yet never be called by God to be involved in dramatic events? Explain.

On the first statement I don’t think that we could be the Christian that God wants us to be. We are too sinful. We could try and God can always help us but we are not perfect. On the second statement, just because a person is not involved in any of God’s dramatic events does not mean anything. God has a person for every one and He knows what each of us can handle.

How should we react if we pray for a great demonstration of God’s power and nothing happens? Explain.

We should not have a crazy reaction. We should remain calm and think about why God isn’t showing us a demonstration. He knows when we really need to see a demonstration from Him. Just by sending His one and only son is enough for us to have faith and believe that He knows what He is doing.
